Royal Crest Centre for Advanced Dentistry® IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THE ARRIVAL OF YET ANOTHER ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY TO OUR OFFICE!!!
We are the first office in the State to integrate the new Planmeca 3-D Cone Beam Panoramic Radiograph. This new x-ray machine allows us to be able to take 3-D x-ray images of the face and jaws in an affordable manner to the patient. This technology was traditionally only found in hospital or medical radiology offices. In the past, if there was a need for a patient to have one of these images taken, then it would be very difficult on the dentist and the patient to coordinate with the hospital or physician to have the image taken in a correct manner and they were very costly to have done. Now with this technology in our office, we can easily take these images in order to accurately diagnose exact positions of impacted wisdom teeth in relation to critical nerves prior to surgical removal and to determine more exactly where to place dental implants in order to avoid the potential for complications of placing implants in areas that could damage vital structures. These radiographs also integrate in to the Simplant software. Dr. Marcello is one of only a select few dentists in the country that have the training to use Simplant in order to computer design areas for implant placement. By doing so, Dr. Marcello can have Simplant fabricate surgical guides to maximize the accuracy of implant placement, therefore maximizing the success and outcome of the case.
Different views of the mouth area using 3D Planmeca Cone Beam Imaging-what your regular x-rays will now look like in our office:
Plan Meca 3D Cone Beam Informational. The only x-ray machine of its kind in
South Carolina! Unique 3D detailed reconstruction of the head, neck and mouth .
Why did we need a 3D CT in the office?
The need for 3 Dimentional CT of the jaws is attributed to a
more accurate and better placement of dental implants since
dental implants are becoming a very popular choice for replacing
missing teeth. And our office has seen more and more patients
opting to have implants placed to replace missing teeth or to
anchor cumbersome dentures, so Dr. Marcello decided that it
would be beneficial to have this technology in our office. When
you get implants placed, it is very important to have a CT scan
done to make sure not only that you have enough bone to
anchor a successful implant but so that your Dentist can see where exactly to place that implant for the highest safety and success.
How does the 3D CT benefit the patients in the office?
Prior to the integration of this
3D x-ray technology in our office,
Dr. Marcello was having to refer patients
to a hospital based setting to get a CT
performed. This was a very tedious, timely,
and costly process for the patient. Many times
hospitals were charging well over $1000 for a
CT scan of a patient’s jaws and often times
Dr. Marcello found it was difficult to utilize a
medical based CT scanner to image a patient’s
teeth and jaws. The process is now extremely
simple for the patient and at a fraction of the
cost of a traditional CT scan and the scan is
performed at the time of the exam so we can
tell right away if you are a candidate to start implant treatment.
How is this PlanMeca 3D CT scan different than traditional CT scans?
Unbelievable pictures that cannot even be represented properly in this one-dimentional media (pics)
Improved Detail: Things we are better able to see: tooth fractures, nerve placement for third molar (wisdom teeth) extractions and placement of impacted third molars and vital structures around them. We can tell how thick bone is as it is important to have enough bone for successful implant placement. All angles of your teeth and head structures are possible to see with our 3D x-ray viewing, making all angles and orientations easily visible and allowing for even cross sectional views of your teeth, nerves, bones, and joints and canals of roots.
Increased Digital Magnification: The Plan Mecca 3D x-ray allows for high resolution TMJ studies as we can obtain multiple cross slices of your head and neck and mouth area with the use of our full circle scans. We receive accurate, distortion-free images for 3D digital reconstruction of your head and mouth using image intensifier sensors and multi-step focusing so there is less distortion of the x-ray.
Reduction of Patient Radiation Dose: There is less radiation as the scanner allows for single views of the jaw mandible or maxilla which then lowers the radiation by almost 40%. The machine uses pulsed exposure so there is more accuracy, and a smaller dose of radiation so when taking each image there is a short x-ray pulse instead of continuous radiation. The scanning time is 16-18 seconds and the actual exposure time is only 6 seconds. This revolutionary technique reduces the patient’s dose and forms a stroboscopic x-ray effect that increases the clarity of the picture, contributing to the outstanding image quality.
Less tedious, saves time, and is less costly than a traditional CT- Other offices send patients to a hospital where they will pay over $1000 for a medical scan that may not be as easy to manipulate with dental technology. So, with this technology in our office, patients are here in a relaxed, outpatient setting where you do not have to leave the dental office. There is no extra appointment made, no separate billing or overcharging of hospital to get the x-ray you need, and all services are performed in our office quickly, and without waiting between steps of the process, so that you get to your desired goal as quickly and economically as possible.
How can you assure accuracy for the most successful implant placement?
An added benefit is that the images from this 3D machine can now be integrated to our amazing Simplant software (links) which allows for improved pre-surgical planning.
The CT Image is integrated digitally into our Simplant software which allows for computer imaging of implants in a patient’s jaw with a highly accurate depiction of vital structures such as nerves and sinuses that need to be avoided when placing the implant during this delicate procedure. It also allows for precise accuracy of where to place the implant, which is not possible without the Simplant computer software and without the actual film being digitally integrated virtually into the software to map out the plan of the surgery. Without this technology there is a much greater risk of debilitating complications during the implant surgery such as permanent nerve damage and perforation of the jaw structure and sinuses. It is possible that an implant will fail or your body will reject the implant just as it would maybe reject a foreign piece of metal for a hip replacement or a new heart that is transplanted. With our equipment we give you the best outcome possible.
Dr. Marcello is only one of a few dentists in the nation trained to use not only the PlanMeca 3D Cone Beam x-ray system, but to also use the Simplant implant placement software. Imagine the possibilities with this new technology! We can now anchor your loose dentures, get rid of your uncomfortable dentures all together, or replace your missing teeth with new crowned teeth with minimal visits either
while you are awake or while you sleep! To show one scenario, below we will show you that you can take missing teeth, have a 3D image
taken of your head and mouth, integrate that into the Simplant system
for a model to be formed virtually to accurately show the Doctor where
to place your implants precisely, and have our Same Day Cerec
machines make a beautiful porcelain crown that looks and feels like a real tooth placed onto that implant. One implant or multiple implants can be placed the same day, or we can place implants with a set of dentures on the same day. There are endless possibilities for a new, beautiful smile-and it is easier than you think!
What if the 3D CT shows that I do not have enough bone for an implant to be successful?
Bone Grafting: If Dr. Marcello feels after seeing the 3D CT that you do not have enough bone for an implant to be anchored successfully, bone grafting may be an option for you. This is where we will take and transplant bone-like material (in the form of coral or another natural material) into the area where you need more bone. The material will harden and build up your bone structure and will allow you to have more bone in the places where you need it to anchor your implants.
*Extra training in Implant Dentistry has made it possible
for Dr. Marcello to give you as many options as he can so that
you can have the fit and feel of natural teeth again. We have
the newest technology, we are able to perform procedures
with maximum comfort, and there is no excuse with the
technology we have today to not give yourself the beautiful
smile that you deserve for confidence and functionality. Implants
with attached crowns that look and feel like natural teeth, or
dentures that are held into place with implants will allow you to eat anything you want again without the worry or pain.*
Is the 3D Cone Beam just used for Implant Placement?
No, there are other advantages of PlanMeca 3D Cone Beam CT. We can take regularly scheduled bitewings and panorex xrays with this amazing machine. We also use the scan for people who tend to gag when x-rays films are placed in their mouth. Now, there is no need for uncomfortable films to be placed in the mouth. Our x-ray system is also used to help from sending you to a specialist to have work done as the 3D cone beam helps us with our diagnostic requirements when we are needing to see your tooth and its surrounding anatomy when we are diagnosing or are treating you for a root canal, gum disease work, or implant work, or oral surgery. We can also help orthodontists with our 3D scans.
Additional Dr Information: We have equipped each of our offices with one of these amazing Plan Meca 3D x-ray systems and are the only office in the State to have the use of its technology. We make it easier and more affordable for your patient to get a CT, as opposed to going to a hospital, and we are able to schedule the x-ray as soon as possible so that they can be scheduled in your office for the procedure quickly. There are many areas of medicine and dentistry where our equipment can be helpful. If you have a patient whom you need us to take an image on, we will be more than happy to accommodate your need. If you are a plastic surgeon, orthodontist, oral maxillofacial surgeon, periodontist, or a general dentist, let us know if we can assist you with a scan. If you need us to integrate the image into our Simplant technology and send you a mapping model of where your precise markers need to be for implant surgery, we will accommodate for this as well. For endodontists, we are able to get accurate pictures in 3D showing directly down the canal of the tooth you are needing to work on.
