What is In Office Professional tooth whitening?
In-Office Professional tooth whitening is a bleaching process that lightens discoloration of enamel and dentin.
What can cause tooth discoloration?
There are many causes. The most common include aging and consumption of staining substances such as coffee, tea or tobacco. During tooth formation, consumption of tetracycline, certain antibiotics or excessive fluoride may also cause tooth discoloration.
Who may benefit from tooth whitening?
Just about anyone can benefit from tooth whitening. However, treatment may not be as effective for some as it is for others. There are some people who will not benefit from bleaching at all. Upon an oral exam, your dentist can determine if you are a candidate for this procedure, including a shade assessment. If you are not a candidate for bleaching, we have other options that can make your smile whiter such as veneers or other cosmetic options, so ask your dentist today!
Is tooth whitening becoming more popular?
Absolutely! A bright, beautiful smile can make a big difference. Our In-Office Professional Whitening System makes it easier and faster than ever before.
Is tooth whitening safe?
Yes, research and clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth under the supervision of a dentist is safe. In fact, many dentists consider whitening the safest cosmetic dental procedure available. As with any tooth whitening product, bleaching is not recommended for children under 13 years of age and pregnant or lactating women.
Do the results last a long time?
By following some simple post whitening care instructions, your teeth will always be lighter than they were before. We recommend flossing, brushing twice daily with Whitening Toothpaste, and touch-ups with professional take-home gel. These are professional formula products designed specifically to keep your teeth their brightest. They are available through our office.
Is there any difference between over-the-counter tooth whiteners and Professional Bleaching?
Yes! Consulting with your dentist or hygienist is always the first step to whitening your teeth safely. Over-the-counter tooth whitening strips, brush-on gels and toothpastes take weeks or months to whiten your teeth just a few shades. You can whiten your teeth shades lighter in one hour or in days with take home bleach.
How does the One Hour In-Office Bleaching System work?
The light-activated whitening gel's active ingredient is Hydrogen Peroxide. As Hydrogen Peroxide is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin, bleaching any colored substance while keeping the structure of the tooth unchanged. Our Sapphire® crystal light aids in activating the Hydrogen Peroxide and helps it penetrate the surface of the tooth. Our light activator is different from the Zoom! bleaching system that you may have seen heavy advertising for, in that our system does not use UVA or the UVB rays given off by the Zoom! System. UVA and UVB lights rays are the bad rays that sunscreen block out. We do not recommend people with history of mouth cancer lesions or who smoke or use tobacco to use the Zoom! system for bleaching.
Is the One Hour Whitening procedure painful?
No. During the procedure, patients can actually watch television or listen to music. Many fall asleep.
Are there any side effects?
Some people experience temporary increased tooth sensitivity to cold during treatment. These symptoms disappear within 1-3 days after interruption or completion of the treatment.
How long is the procedure?
The Entire procedure takes just over one hour. The procedure begins with a preparation period followed by one hour of bleaching. A five-minute fluoride treatment completes the procedure (we recommend a cleaning prior to the actual One Hour Whitening session).
How long does our Professional Take-Home Whitening take?
The professional take-home gel is designed to be worn between four and eight hours per application. Your dentist or hygienist will advise you on how long you should wear each application. If need be, your dentist or hygienist will help you determine how many applications are right for you. You will want to keep your gel in your refrigerator for best results.
How is the Professional Take-Home System different from the Professional One Hour In-Office Whitening System?
The main difference between the two systems is that you use the Professional Take-Home System in the convenience of your own home over a few nights. The Professional In-Office System is performed entirely in the office.
Here at Royal Crest Centre for Advanced Dentistry® we offer the latest in teeth whitening. Whiten your teeth in a little over an hour and keep them white for an entire year! With our one hour treatment, you can enjoy whiter teeth in minutes with less discomfort and sensitivity than if you whiten your teeth over an extended period. If you don’t choose our premium whitening service, why not try one of our take home kits where you will receive custom treys and a full year of bleaching material? Store bought kits can leave you with unwanted streaking and mixed results, can cost you the same amount you will spend for professional whitening supplies, and some people are not candidates for bleaching. So to make sure you don’t waste your money on products that won’t work ask your hygienist today how to brighten your smile, and get a free consult to see if you are a bleaching candidate. With any type bleaching, dietary habits have to be considered because teeth will naturally stain with time. For permanent, maintenance free whitening consider veneers.
